I do like a large ice cube in my Old Fashioned, but as a busy parent I often find that the only ice we have in the house are ones in ice cube trays. If you prefer a large cube or sphere, you can easily substitute one of them for the three cubes in the recipe.
I make my own simple syrup by stirring together equal parts sugar and water and then heating and boiling it for a few minutes. It will store in the fridge for around a week. I found these simple flasks on Amazon that I store my syrup and fresh fruit juices in.
I occasionally try new bourbons in my Old Fashioned but I always come back to Bulleit Bourbon. I recommend you try different brands and find which one works best for you.
If there is any ingredient I recommend sparing no expense on, it would be the Luxardo cherries. These areĀ delicious and worth every cent. I buy mine on Amazon and they are always delivered safely and quickly. One jar lasts me quite a while because I don't use cocktail cherries in all my drinks.
